Dental Phobia or anxiety when visiting the dentist?
We are now giving our patients the option to receive nitrous oxide(happy gas) to help them relax whilst receiving treatment.
This involves giving a mixture of nitrous oxide (‘happy gas’) and oxygen which are inhaled through a rubber face mask. The nitrous oxide reduces anxiety and improves co-operation, without causing unconsciousness.
The effects of the nitrous oxide wears off very quickly and the patient can leave the surgery without the need for an accompanying adult.
This technique can used for most patients but must be avoided in those with colds and other respiratory problems, psychiatric treatment, vitamin B12 deficiency and in pregnancy. This form of sedation is particularly useful for treating anxious children and adults.
Professional Dental Care for Special Needs Patients
Our Dentist Dr Swati Sharma is passionate about providing quality dental treatment for special needs patients in our community. 8,042 people or 5.2% of the population in the City of Whittlesea in 2011, reported needing help in their day-to-day lives due to disability. Some disabilities can hinder the skills needed to perform simple oral hygiene functions, increasing the possibility of tooth decay and gum disease.
Special needs patients may require special dental health care services. and you can be rest assured that each and every visit you will be welcomed by the familiar faces here at North Star Dental.
